PEX is a cross linked polyethylene. It is the result of links between molecules of the polyethylene that create strong bridges. This resulting stuff is more durable under extreme conditions. PEX is a good stuff for the hot and the cold water which makes it to fit in many applications. PEX pipes have several advantages over the other types of ordinary rigid plastic (PVC, CPVC, ABS) and metal pipes (iron, copper, lead). This pipe is constructed from the polymer known as HDPE which stands for high density polythene polymer. This polymer is allowed to melt and then constantly extruded into the tube. This method can be performed in different ways.
The strength and flexibility of the PEX pipe in extreme temperature conditions ranges from hard freezing point to higher temperatures. This feature makes this pipe fit to be used in plumbing environment, hydronic radiant heating systems, ice rinks, service lines, snow melting applications and in refrigeration warehouses. It is preferably suited for potable water supply systems. It is supple and makes its installation simple and easy. PEX pipe has a capability to survive in low and high temperatures that can be related to various applications.
This pipe is highly resistive to the chemicals that are found in the environment. It has smooth interiors that prevent corrosion and scale formation. PEX has very few connections and fittings that make their installation process simple and cheaper. This pipe is tested with other ordinary pipes and finds it best suited for hot and cold water distribution systems.
A PEX pipe comes in different sizes depending on the diameter of the pipe. These pipes are available in the market in different sizes like 3/8, 5/8, 1/2, ¾ and also in one inch. This pipe is present in common colors like white, red and black and blue. The red and blue color is used to distinct the hot and cold water supplies.
